Change Level Names in MicroStation J
By ControlAltDelete - www.penbrush.com

In V7, the levels are not named, they are numbered and the names are just aliases stored in a text file with the extension .lvl. These level names are not stored in the design file. You can easily change level names by doing the following.

  • Select Settings>Level>Names
  • From the Level Names dialog, select File>Save
  • Navigate to the folder of you choice and enter a name.
  • Click OK

MicroStation will then “export” your level names to an external text file with a .lcl extension.

  • Open the resulting .lcl file with any text editor
  • Edit the names as desired
  • Save the changes
  • Again in MicroStation, select Settings>Level>Names
  • Form the Level Names dialog, select File>Open
  • Select the modified .lcl file
  • Click OK
  • Click the Done button.
