Dimension tips from ControlAltDelete

This month's dimension tips come from the Land Down Under's premier MicroStation quarterly magazine, ControlAltDelete (www.penbrush.com). We hope you enjoy these tips!

Dissociate a Dimension
Question: I have placed a dimension with association on. How do I change it? Is there a tool to dissociate a dimension?

Answer: From the "Drop" tool bar (Tools | Drop), click on the "Drop Association" icon. Snap to the end of an extension line and accept.

Dimension Text Justification

Question: Where is the setting that allows the text within a dimension to be justified?

Answer: In the Dimension Settings dialog (Element | Dimensions), under the Text category, the Justification option will shift the text left, right or center, relative to the dimension line.

Lock the Ability to Drop Dimensions
Questions: Is there a way to lock out the ability to drop dimensions?

Answer: Select the dimensions you want to lock with the Element Selection tool, then go to Edit | Lock (or press <Ctrl+L>). This will prevent you from dropping the dimension but will still allow the dimension to be updated if it was placed associative.
